Justice Gulzar Ahmed has been appointed as the new chief justice of Pakistan (CJP). President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi has approved the appointment and notification has been issued from the Law Ministry.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed will replace Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and will assume the charge of the office on 21st of December. Justice Asif Saeed khan who became the 26th chief justice of Pakistan in the January this year is due to retire on 21st of December this year after turning 65. According to the law justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan can serve till the age of 65.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed has a distinguished career as a lawyer he remained legal advisor of many multinational companies and banks. Justice Gulzar Ahmed is a graduate of Government National College Karachi and S.M College Karachi. He was enrolled as advocate o 18th January 1986.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed became advocate High court in April 1988 and became was enrolled as advocate in Supreme Court on 15th of September 2001.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed will assume the office as 27th CJP. Justice Gulzar Ahmed will remain in the office till 2nd of February 2022.
